This will be hard to hear. Most of us have lost control of our lives. We wake up and move from one thing to another because that’s what we’ve always done. The emails, the news, the scrolling, the notifications, constant motion that leaves us feeling busy, but rarely fulfilled.
When was the last time you stepped back and really examined at your life? When was the last time you prayed, reflected, or sat in silence long enough to ask, “Why am I here?”
That loss of stillness isn’t accidental. It’s part of something deeper, a spiritual battle that surrounds us every day.
The Subtle Chains of Technology
Technology should be just a tool. A phone, a laptop, or even AI can sit quietly and do nothing until we give it power. But once we use it, it can start to shape us. The question is, are we using it, or is it using us?
When you listen to AI experts—Sam Altman, Elon Musk, or the engineers behind the newest models, you’ll hear them admit something haunting: “It did something we don’t understand.” The systems they built are starting to act with a kind of will, an intelligence that surprises even their creators.
That’s why we need to be careful. Not afraid, but aware. Because just like our phones that we can no longer turn off or remove the batteries from, the digital world is always listening, always tracking, always ready to nudge us where it wants us to go.
The Battle Is Spiritual
This isn’t just about technology. It’s about distraction. The endless noise, the data, the opinions, they tear at the fabric of our humanity. They keep us from prayer, family, connection, and reflection. They make us forget what matters most.
When I speak across the country, I see it in people’s eyes. We’ve forgotten how to live intentionally. We’ve forgotten the simple things that make a person truly happy:
-
Close family and friends.
-
A spiritual life and a sense of higher purpose.
-
Hard work and discipline.
That’s it. The happiest people I meet have those three things, and they protect them. Everyone else is running on autopilot, letting the culture tell them what to care about.
A Simple Table, A Sacred Moment
Think about dinner time. When was the last time you and your family sat at a table with no phones, no screens, just a home-cooked meal, a prayer, and a real conversation?
In that moment, you don’t need anything else. You don’t need your phone, your feed, or your notifications. You have everything that matters right there, people you love and gratitude in your heart. That’s where peace lives.
The Matrix Was Prophecy
We think The Matrix was science fiction, but in many ways it was prophecy. In that world, people were plugged into machines after losing a war to AI and a descent into darkness was all but inescapable. They lived in illusions that made them feel free while their bodies were imprisoned and drained of life.
That’s our danger today. The more we give our time and attention to machines, the less control we have over our souls. We feel like we’re choosing, but the truth is, we’re being programmed.
Taking Back Control
The way back isn’t complicated, but it’s hard. It starts with honesty. You have to admit that the noise has taken too much space in your life.
Then take one small step today to reclaim your freedom. Maybe it’s turning your phone off for an hour. Maybe it’s taking a walk, praying, or calling someone you’ve lost touch with. Maybe it’s holding your spouse’s hand and saying the Lord’s Prayer together.
That’s what my wife and I did this morning. I was busy, running behind, and she said, “Give me a minute.” I hesitated, but then we sat down, prayed, and for two minutes, the world stopped. It reminded me what matters most.
The True Rebellion
You want to be a rebel? Be good. Wake up and choose to do something good today. That’s true rebellion in a world that feeds on distraction.
The battle for your attention is the battle for your soul. Choose what matters. Choose love, discipline, and faith. And take back control.
