Nikon F3HP, Film, & My Kids Bringing A Warm Glow To Winter

Maximus in tree on filmWe are still digging out of snow, so I wanted to remember a warmer glow! This past summer I got an old film camera out of storage, a Nikon F3hp, and took a few pictures of Maximus and Georgia at the local park. While film doesn’t give one the instant gratification of digital, it makes you slow down and think about what you are doing. This is a process that usually results in more deliberate, and even better pictures. Plus, film has a warm look that is hard to easily emulate with digital. While I will never give up the convenience of digital, this day reminded me to not totally forget film. And as always, an excuse to spend more time with my children is always a good one.

For many years the Nikon F3HP was Nikon’s top professional camera. In a digital age, the heavy body of steel feels like a weapon. It is a deliberate picture taking machine – manual focus, simple auto-exposure, and just the most basic features. But the magic than can come out of this classic machine with a great lens is just amazing.
